How Many Languages Can You Recognize?

Of the more than 6,900 languages spoken in the world, how many do you think you could recognize if you heard them? Actually, how many languages did you think there were in the world? If you’re anything like me, probably far fewer than that.

The fine people over at greatlanguagegame.com have gathered audio snippets of just 80 of the world’s languages and challenge you to identify them. You’re offered a choice of two or three languages, and you need to choose which language is being spoken in the audio sample. See how much you know about our world’s languages!

BBC Quiz: Why do you love the world?

Check out this quiz at the BBC. You answer a series of questions (some of which we wanted to enter at least two different answers for, but weren’t allowed to; this quiz forces you to think about your true priorities), and at the end, find out what kind of traveler you are.

It’s kind of silly, but also kind of fun, and makes you think about trips past and plans for the future as you consider what is most important to you in your travels. This contributor, apparently, is a scholar at heart (as well as a lover of history and gustatory pleasures).

Best Interwebs Timesuck Ever

So I’ve just discovered what I’m going to be doing for all of the non-Superbowl parts of this weekend. (Goodbye, sleep!) The BBC has a game on their website called Geoguessr. It shows you a picture, and you try to guess where in the world it is. The closer the spot is to your guess, the more points you get. See how well you know the world!
